Recently I created a new page on my website, https://idesignyours.com/long-island-seo . The goal was to rank high in google searches so as to attract more business. Some of the problems I ran into right off the bat were code from elementor page builder and a youtube video I placed in the slider. Apparently these both played a role in google refusing to index the site.
After fixing the code and removing the youtube video from the header/ slider area, I was finally able to get google to index this page. It first showed up on page 5, position #49 for the keyword Long Island SEO on 7/31/20. I am doing a live case study on Linkedin to show what I am doing to improve/ tweak the search engine optimization on the page so that it will rank higher, hopefully on page 1 of Google.
Right now the site has no indexed backlinks, according to ahrefs. The url rating for this page is 7, which is very low. I hope to improve this score by adding valuable backlinks from sources like strikingly.
One of the things I worked on was my gtmetrix score for the page. Gtmetrix is a website testing tool which measures various metrics on your site and shows you where you can improve.
I also went through all aspects of my Yoast plugin until I got the "green light", which is how they let you know what you need to fix and what is already good, as far as your SEO is concerned.
For on-page SEO, I made sure I had the proper page structure; Headers, internal links, outbound links. For on-page, you want to make sure you use your keyword in the proper places - and the right amount of times (referred to as "keyword density"). You don't want to overstuff your keyword just for the sake of having it appear numerous times. You want to use it as organically as possible on the page, so as not to draw negative attention to it. Remember, Google judges your website, in part, by how long visitors stay on it. If you have bad grammar, ie. overstuffed keywords, then people will leave quicker.
After going over my on-page search engine optimization, I have embarked on a link building strategy, which starts here, on my strikingly site. Actually I've already linked from a .edu website, but so far it has not indexed.
Another thing I did was to add alternative text to my images on the page. This is supposedly done for blind people, so they will have a description of the picture, since they can't see it. Not exactly sure how it works, to be honest. I usually use my keyword in the alt text section. You can find this by logging into your wordpress admin panel, going to the media library, and choosing a picture to edit. You will see an empty space where you can add your alt text.
For now, that is all there is to report. I will update the progress of the page either here or on my linkedin profile. Stay tuned.
