Find Someone Your Trust To Do Your SEO

SEO is a valuable marketing commodity, if you can actually get someone you trust to do it. Let's face it, there are alot of charlatans out there, self professed "experts" in search engine optimization, but who's telling the truth, and more importantly, how do you find out before spending your hard earned money? There's no official rule book on the matter, but chances are, if you go into this with your head screwed on properly, you'll make some informed decisions about who to hire.

What To Look For When Hiring An SEO

First of all, as Warren Buffet supposedly said, "“Somebody once said that in looking for people to hire, you look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if you don't have the first, the other two will kill you. ..".

The point? Hire a smart crook and you'll end up in the poorhouse.

You'll want to hire someone who is trustworthy and knowledgeable and really willing to go the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied. Not everybody will get it right the first time, but an honest person will work hard until they get it right.

But How Do You Know?

You can start off by looking at their reviews on the web. Go to the prospective employee's Google My Business page and check their reviews. Is anyone dissatisfied with their work? Why? And remember, you might find a "bad apple" review. After all, you can't please everyone, everytime, right?

Another thing you can do is look at examples of their past work. Have they managed to get other websites on page 1 of Google? This is no easy feat - if they've already done it, it's a really good sign.

Ask For References

Asking for references can be a little tricky sometimes, here's why; you're asking for someone who's working to take time out of their busy workday day to tell you about someone they've previously hired. Some may be willing to do this, some may be a little miffed. If you can get a previous employer on the phone, it's probably worth reading 10 reviews, because you can back and forth with the employer and ask your own questions. Reviews don't talk back!  A funny story: one of my clients told me initially she didn't believe my Google reviews because she thought they were too good to be true. She ended up calling one of the people at 6:30am. while they were on vacation!

But What Kind Of Skills Should I look For In An SEO?

Ideally, your SEO Specialist should be well versed in keyword research. This will help them find the best options to use on your website to improve your visibility in online searches. They should also have a deep understanding of on-site SEO, a term referring to search engine optimization done on your actual web pages. This includes; making an updated sitemap, making sure your robots.txt is set to index your site, not block it from the search engines, making sure your pages are structured properly (h1, h2 titles), having your keyword properly placed in your site url; meta title and description, to name a few.

Your SEO Specialist Should be well versed in off-site SEO. This includes building backlinks from various sources; directories and guest posting are usually the best places to start. You also want your SEO Specialist to be familiar with making search engine optimized press releases for any new events or offerings by your company. A good press release can give your website a powerful backlink, which can help boost your SEO.

The SEO Agency you choose to work with should be experienced in Wordpress Web Design so that they are capable of implementing any needed changes on your website. This includes adding and configuring your seo plugin.

Ask To See Samples Of Their Work

When you are hiring an SEO Specialist, you'll naturally want to see samples of their successes. Are they able to rank websites for local search terms? For example, iDesignYours is located in Woodhaven, NY. What do you see when you do a google search for SEO Company in Woodhaven, NY?
